Earth Resistance survey

Earth Resistance surveys are a cost effective way of locating and mapping the foundations of buildings and formal garden features.

They are usually carried out in small targeted areas. The instrument works by passing a small electrical current through the earth and measuring the resistance. In a typical survey, a wall or solid structure would offer high resistance. On the contrary, a ditch or large pit would produce low resistance.

Typical targets would include:

  • Walls – Foundations – Roads

  • Stone Coffins

  • Formal Gardens – Paths and Drains

  • Ditches – Large pits

  • Bedrock or Water table
