Earth Resistance survey

Earth Resistance surveys are a cost effective way of locating and mapping the foundations of buildings and formal garden features.

Usually carried out in small targeted areas the instrument works by passing a small electrical current through the earth and measuring the resistance. In a typical survey it would be expected that a wall or solid structure would offer high resistance while a ditch or large pit would produce low resistance.

Typical targets would include:

  • Walls – Foundations – Roads

  • Stone Coffins

  • Formal Gardens – Paths and Drains

  • Ditches – Large pits

  • Bedrock or Water table
