Sales Co-ordinator / Scheduler

SALARY: £20,000 - £24,000

LOCATION: Thornton, Bradford

HOURS: Full time 40 hrs/week - Permeant contract Monday-Friday 9.00-5.30pm (including 30 mins for lunch). Benefits include 25 days holiday pa (plus Public Holidays), a bonus scheme, enrolment in pension scheme and free car parking.

Key Responsibilities:

Provision of support for the Archaeology team, from enquiries and quotations through to sales order processing and order management. Liaising with clients and scheduling work for 5 field teams. In addition, general administrative support including archiving, filing, hotel booking etc will be required. Occasionally there may be a need to travel to other offices within the group and for client meetings.

Essential skills:

  • Creating and maintaining a strong working relationship with clients.

  • Driving the growth of orders.

  • Delivering the highest standard of customer service.

  • Possessing a positive, confident and professional telephone manner with excellent communication skills.

  • Experience of using MS Office - Word and Excel.

  • Working as part of a small friendly team.

  • Willingness to learn general details about geophysical surveying in archaeology


Desirable skills:

  • Experience using Exchequer software package (training will be given)

  • Full driving licence

Junior Measured Building Surveyor

SALARY: Competitive

LOCATION: Head Office, Havant

HOURS: Full time 40 hrs/week

An exciting opportunity to join a leading multidisciplinary survey practice. SUMO is one of the UK’s largest providers of survey services, with National coverage.

Enabling our clients to better manage their property assets, SUMO Measured Building projects range from small single buildings, heritage and archaeological sites to large commercial and industrial facilities within a variety of industry sectors.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Senior Surveyors on a range of projects, working with both traditional laser scan data and survey drawings.

  • Assisting work on survey projects by digitally drawing floor plans, elevations and sections unaided.

  • Assist Senior Measured Building Surveyors onsite.

  • Occasional overnight stays outside of the area may be required but this will be minimal.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2-3 years’ experience within the survey industry.

  • Basic understanding of scan registration and experience using Scene or Realworks software.

  • A fundamental understanding and experience using AutoCAD.

  • GCSE results (A*- C) in all core subjects. Relevant A Level results (A* - C) or BTech equivalent results and any other survey training will strengthen application.

  • Full UK driving license would be advantageous

Trainee Measured Building Surveyor

This exciting opportunity will teach you the basics of survey onwards, providing you with professional training and experience whilst on the job. What’s more, this role will ideally position you for career progression into Junior Surveyor roles after the training period of 2-3 years.

The nature of this stimulating role requires no previous survey experience however, an interest in personal development within the role would be favoured.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Assisting Senior Surveyors on a range of projects, working with both traditional laser scan data and survey drawings.

  • Assisting work on survey projects by digitally drawing building floor plans, elevations and sections. Training will be given in these areas.

  • There will be opportunity for onsite work.

  • Aiding Senior Measured Building surveyors through work in AutoCAD. Training in AutoCAD and other relevant survey software’s will be provided however, an existing interest in digital drawing software’s would strengthen application.

Archaeological Geophysicists

SALARY: £17,600 - £24,000 variable upon experience

LOCATION: Bradford & Upton upon Severn

HOURS: Full time 40 hrs/week

SUMO Geophysics: Archaeology and Engineering (incorporating GSB Prospection Ltd and Stratascan Ltd) is the largest and most experienced group of archaeological geophysicists in the UK, with over 50 years of combined experience. We are looking to further expand our teams in the Midlands (at Upton upon Severn) and in the North (at Bradford) and invite candidates with varying levels of experience to join this multi-disciplined Group. In addition to Archaeological and Engineering Geophysics, SUMO also specialises in Utility Detection, Topographic Surveys, Measured Building Surveys, Laser Scanning and Aerial Surveys (in conjunction with Aerial Cam).

We are looking for an experienced operators (permanent posts) and 1 trainee (initial 3-month contract leading to possible permanent posts).
Start date: ASAP (hence early applications welcomed)  


Qualifications Preferred: Degree in Archaeology, Archaeological Sciences or related subject.
An MSc in Archaeological Prospection, or similar, would be advantageous for the Experienced positions.
Full training given.
CIfA membership welcomed, as are holders of CSCS cards.

Role: Carrying our geophysical surveys primarily using Bartington and Geoscan instruments, plus Trimble GPS survey equipment.
Occasional utility detection work / building and topographic surveys etc.

The trainee post is a full time field positions; the experienced post is also field based, but suitable candidates will become involved in data processing, interpretation and report writing. All posts require a willingness to work outdoors in all weathers, in small teams staying away from home throughout the UK. Applicants need to be able to undertake these duties.

  • Accommodation (hotel/B&B/pub) and subsistence provided when working away from base.

  • Permanent posts will qualify for Pension Enrolment and 33 days paid holiday (inclusive of Public Holidays).

  • Full PPE provided. Full driving licence required for ALL posts.
