CHAS approval for SUMO
Leading UK supplier of underground utility detection services to the construction industry, SUMO Services, has been approved by the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS).
The scheme has been developed by local government health and safety professionals with the support of the Health and Safety executive.
It is a database available for use by both public and private sector organisations planning to employ contractors. They can access the CHAS database and find out whether a company is compliant with important parts of health and safety law.
“For SUMO to be approved by CHAS a detailed assessment had to made of SUMO’s management of health and safety and their ability to carry out work safely. The approval is a testament to SUMO’s stringent health and safety policies,” said SUMO’s Managing Director, Mike Bushell.
Health and safety is at the heart of SUMO’s business as the service it offers, locating underground utilities, reduces the likelihood of serious accidents on construction sites.
“CHAS is good news for both contractors and those in the public and private sectors looking to employ them as it is a nationally recognised way of assessing health and safety issues,” added Mike.
SUMO scoped two national industry awards in 2006 and has worked on many prestigious construction sites across the UK including large town centre regeneration projects, new hospitals and major road building schemes.
Recent sites surveyed across the UK include St John’s Shopping Centre in Liverpool, Birmingham New Hospitals project and High Wycombe town regeneration
